5 Into Your Own Classroom

The Future is Here

Your experience in the classroom is about to begin. Here are some final thoughts before you move into the extremely valuable profession of teaching.

We began this book by recognizing many of us did not choose the teaching profession because we wanted to teach reading and literacy skills to adolescents. We love our content area, whether it be agriculture or science, to name a couple.

However, we hope through this text you have learned that helping your students improve their literacy skills will not only benefit them, but will also benefit you as their teacher. By providing the right kinds of texts and the right kinds of support, you’ll be able to reach more students with your content–and, hopefully, pass along that passion you have for your content area.

Section 1: Where Do We Go From Here?

We began this book by recognizing many of us did not choose the teaching profession because we wanted to teach reading and literacy skills to adolescents. We love our content area, whether it be agriculture or physical education or science, to name a few.

So let’s wrap this up by watching a video that features middle schoolers (who are awesome!) engaged in literacy (which is also awesome!) and going totally  Bookloose, complete with music. Enjoy!
