What’s Next
So far, I have shared with you an overarching framework that highlights four areas of interest within an organization that we need to pay attention to when leading organizational digital transformation (See Figure 2 below). This framework is developed based on the assumption that every organization has aging legacy systems that inhibit the organization’s sustainable development in the 4IR age. You may wonder, isn’t an organization’s culture an important factor to consider? Yes, it is. The reason I am not listing culture as a separate priority area of interest is because organizational culture is embedded in and reflected through all these four major areas of interest. Everything we say about organizational culture can find its place in one of these four areas of interest. Though these four areas of interest overlap with and complement each other, the sequence of thinking and strategizing an organization’s digital transformation is always people first. Any changes in one area will create different effects in the other three areas. Therefore, leading with an integrative strategy is the key to the success of an organization’s digital transformation.
