Introduction

Welcome to EDCI 710! This course provides a critical examination from multiple perspectives of the historical, sociological, philosophical, economic and legal intersections impacting public K-12 education in the United States of America. Tensions in the relationship between public schools and society and their implications for teaching and learning are explored. The questions of what are freedom, democracy, instruction, power, and choice are central to the examination in learning and teaching for social change and social justice.
